Die Cutter Operator

Position Summary

The Die Cutter Operator is responsible for operating die cutting equipment to cut, score, strip, and blank carton orders in a production environment. This role ensures all finished pieces meet customer-approved specifications while maintaining equipment performance, safety, and product quality standards.


Key Responsibilities

Production & Quality

  • Operate die cutting machinery to produce folding cartons according to specifications
  • Ensure all production pieces match customer-approved prototypes
  • Verify structural integrity and functionality of finished cartons
  • Monitor production runs and troubleshoot issues related to cutting, stripping, and blanking
  • Collaborate with production teams to ensure efficiency and quality outputs

Equipment Operation & Maintenance

  • Set up and operate Bobst die cutting machines, preferably BOBST Vision Cut
  • Prepare and manage tooling including universal and dedicated pins
  • Set up matrix, phenolic, and steel counter plates
  • Perform troubleshooting on stripping and blanking processes
  • Maintain organization and storage of dies used in production
  • Conduct routine machine maintenance and cleaning to ensure optimal performance

Process & Technical Expertise

  • Apply knowledge of folding carton production and finishing processes
  • Ensure die cutting setup supports downstream processes, including folder/gluer operations
  • Understand how printing quality impacts die cutting and final product outcome

Food Packaging Safety

  • Prevent contamination by ensuring only approved materials are used in production
  • Maintain equipment cleanliness to prevent hazards (e.g., wood splintering, tooling defects)
  • Follow HACCP requirements (SPC-FS-8-D06-R13) to ensure safe production practices
  • Report any safety or compliance concerns to the Food Packaging Safety Team
  • Support overall Food Packaging Safety System compliance

Job Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Proven experience operating Bobst die cutting equipment (required)
  • Preferred experience with BOBST Vision Cut machines
  • Strong understanding of die cutting processes and tooling setup
  • Knowledge of folding carton production and troubleshooting techniques
  • Familiarity with printing processes and their impact on finishing
  • High attention to detail and quality standards

Press Crew Operator

Position Summary

The Press Crew Operator is responsible for coordinating with management to efficiently run print jobs while maintaining high-quality standards. This role ensures proper operation, maintenance, and cleaning of the press, while meeting production timelines and adhering to food packaging safety requirements.


Key Responsibilities

Production & Operations

  • Operate printing press to apply ink and coatings to paperboard according to job specifications
  • Verify job specifications against raw materials before starting each order
  • Review press sheets against proofs and/or ink drawdowns to ensure color accuracy
  • Monitor print runs for color variation, registration issues, and defects
  • Maintain consistent quality throughout production
  • Log and issue materials used in the ERP system

Equipment Maintenance

  • Perform wash-up and breakdown of the machine after each run
  • Conduct routine press maintenance including:
    • Roller maintenance
    • Monitoring pH levels of fountain solution
    • Oiling and greasing equipment as needed
  • Assist with weekly and monthly preventive maintenance tasks
  • Ensure optimal press performance at all times

Food Packaging Safety

  • Prevent contamination by ensuring only approved materials are used in production
  • Clean equipment thoroughly to meet HACCP standards (SPC-FS-8-D04-R11)
  • Verify raw materials to ensure they meet safety requirements
  • Record batch numbers for ink, paper, and coatings for traceability
  • Report any non-compliance issues to the Food Packaging Safety Team

Job Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years of printing press experience
  • Preferred experience with Offset Lithography presses
  • Strong knowledge of printing processes, finishing, and packaging specifications
  • Familiarity with press maintenance procedures
  • High attention to detail and quality control
