Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Air Import Specialist to support international air freight operations in Rancho Dominguez, CA. This position is responsible for coordinating air import shipments from arrival through final delivery while ensuring accurate documentation, timely communication, and compliance with applicable customs and transportation requirements.
The Air Import Specialist will work closely with customers, airlines, ground handlers, customs brokers, trucking companies, and other transportation partners to keep shipments moving efficiently and resolve issues as they arise.
Key responsibilities include:
- Coordinate and monitor international air import shipments from arrival through final delivery.
- Prepare, review, and process import documentation, including Air Waybills (AWBs), commercial invoices, packing lists, and customs documentation.
- Communicate with airlines, ground handlers, customs brokers, trucking companies, and customers regarding shipment status.
- Coordinate cargo release, customs clearance, and inland transportation.
- Track shipments and provide proactive, timely updates to customers.
- Verify shipment details and maintain accurate data within transportation management systems.
- Troubleshoot shipment delays, damages, discrepancies, and other service-related issues.
- Support compliance with U.S. Customs requirements, TSA requirements, and established company procedures.
- Manage billing, invoicing, and cost-related information associated with import shipments.
- Maintain complete and accurate shipment records and documentation.
- Assist customers with shipment inquiries, quotes, and service solutions.
- Work effectively in a fast-paced logistics environment while managing multiple shipments and priorities.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Previous experience in freight forwarding, logistics, supply chain, air cargo operations, or a related field preferred.
- Knowledge of air freight import processes and customs requirements.
- Experience with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) processes preferred.
- Knowledge of IATA regulations and airline cargo procedures preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Experience using logistics or transportation management software; CargoWise One (CW1) experience preferred.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when handling shipment documentation and data.
- Demonstrated customer service and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with internal teams and external transportation partners.
- Ability to work Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM.
- Flexibility for occasional overtime or additional coverage based on shipment arrivals and business needs.
This position will begin as a temporary assignment with the potential to transition to a permanent opportunity based on business needs and individual performance.
