Job Title: MIG Welder (Heavy Gauge Steel) Shift: 1st Shift Pay: $22/hr

Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented MIG Welder to join our custom steel fabrication shop. In this role, you will manipulate and weld heavy gauge structural steel components used directly in commercial and industrial construction builds. Because our projects are entirely custom, you must be able to read complex blueprints, work with thick materials, and maintain high-quality welds that meet structural safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform high-quality MIG (GMAW) and Flux-Cored (FCAW) welding on heavy gauge steel plates, beams, and columns.
- Interpret structural blueprints, welding symbols, and technical engineering drawings to accurately assemble custom components.
- Fit, position, align, and secure parts prior to welding using fixtures, clamps, and turn-tables.
- Operate shop machinery safely, including grinders, torches, overhead cranes, and material handling equipment.
- Inspect finished welds for conformance to AWS specifications, ensuring deep penetration and structural integrity.
- Maintain a clean work area and perform routine preventative maintenance on welding equipment and tools.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2–4 years of experience as a MIG welder, specifically working with heavy-gauge structural steel.
- Current or previous AWS certification (e.g., D1.1 structural welding) is highly preferred.
- Proficient in multi-pass welding, fillet welds, and groove welds on thick material.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for long periods, and work comfortably in a heavy industrial shop environment.
