Job Summary
We are seeking a dependable and physically resilient Walkie Rider Operator to join our automotive battery distribution team. In this role, you will safely operate an electric walkie rider pallet jack to pick, pull, and stage orders of automotive batteries for shipment to retail stores. This position requires constant heavy lifting of vehicle batteries throughout the shift. Additionally, you will play a critical role in our sustainability efforts by sorting incoming core (returned) batteries from retail stores, accurately distinguishing between lithium and non-lithium units to ensure safe handling and recycling.
Key Responsibilities

- Frequently lift, carry, and stack automotive batteries weighing 40 to 70+ lbs onto pallets continuously throughout an 8 to 10-hour shift.
- Inspect and sort incoming returned batteries (cores) shipped back from retail locations. Meticulously separate lithium-ion batteries from non-lithium (lead-acid) batteries following strict safety compliance protocols.
- Properly wrap, secure, and label completed pallets of batteries. Stage them in designated loading dock areas for outbound shipment.
- Verify part numbers, quantities, and battery types to ensure order accuracy. Inspect batteries for leaks, cracks, or damage prior to staging.
- Conduct daily pre-trip inspections of the walkie rider equipment. Adhere to all OSHA, DOT, and company hazardous material (HAZMAT) handling regulations.
Qualifications & Physical Requirements
- Minimum of 1 year of experience operating an electric walkie rider pallet jack (end-rider or center-rider) in a warehouse setting. Certification is a plus.
- Ability to perform continuous heavy lifting (40–70+ lbs regularly) and stand, bend, twist, and reach for the duration of the shift.
- Ability to quickly and accurately identify different battery chemistries (lithium vs. lead-acid) based on labels, weight, and visual markers.
- Comfort working with hazardous materials (battery acid, high-voltage components) and strict adherence to personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
- Strong attendance record, punctuality, and the ability to work overtime or weekends as needed.
