Job Responsibilities

  • Operate sit-down forklifts to move pallets, lumber, and materials throughout the warehouse and yard.
  • Load and unload trailers while ensuring proper stacking, pallet alignment, and load stability.
  • Supply production lines with pallets and retrieve finished pallets for staging or shipment.
  • Transport damaged pallets to repair stations and move completed pallets to designated storage areas.
  • Maintain accurate counts of pallets moved, staged, and loaded according to company procedures.
  • Complete daily forklift inspections, including fluids, tires, forks, and safety features.
  • Report equipment issues and maintenance concerns promptly.
  • Follow all safety protocols, PPE requirements, and equipment operation guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 months of sit-down forklift experience in a warehouse, production, or manufacturing environment.

Position Summary

The Sort Center Operations Coordinator is responsible for overseeing real-time freight flow and execution within a high-volume sortation environment. This role focuses on operational control, throughput optimization, performance monitoring, and exception management to ensure freight moves efficiently through inbound, sortation, and outbound processes.

The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical skills, operational awareness, and experience working in fast-paced logistics, transportation, cross-dock, or distribution environments. Success in this role requires the ability to identify constraints, make data-driven decisions, and coordinate operational execution to maintain service level performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and manage freight movement across inbound, sortation, staging, and outbound operations.
  • Analyze real-time operational data to optimize throughput and maintain workflow efficiency.
  • Identify and resolve bottlenecks, capacity constraints, and process disruptions impacting performance.
  • Monitor trailer status, backlog levels, dwell times, scan compliance, and departure schedules.
  • Coordinate operational priorities to support service commitments and network performance goals.
  • Investigate shipment exceptions, misroutes, and inventory discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure alignment between system-generated work queues and floor execution.
  • Track and report key operational metrics including throughput, productivity, accuracy, and on-time departures.
  • Escalate critical operational risks and support recovery plans to minimize service impact.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of operational events, exceptions, and corrective actions.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on process standardization, efficiency, and quality.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of experience in logistics, distribution, warehouse, transportation, cross-dock, parcel, or sort center operations.
  • Experience working in a high-volume, KPI-driven environment.
  • Strong understanding of freight flow, dock operations, and outbound transportation processes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and operational reporting tools.
  • Ability to analyze data, prioritize workload, and make decisions in real time.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), Transportation Management Systems (TMS), or sortation software platforms.
  • Experience in 3PL, 4PL, e-commerce, parcel, or transportation operations.
  • Knowledge of root cause analysis and process improvement methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement practices.
